SKW 5-a-side international amateur social football tournament 2010
On Saturday 19 June, the SKW Soccer Division staged its first International 5-a-side tournament. The tournament was very well organised and a full complement of 32 teams were signed in! the low entry fees and international theme ensured a cheerfull social atmosphere. Competition was stiff for both the League and social rounds, with passionate participation by all the teams. The Cup Final was won by Zimbabwe who dominated over the team from Algeria. In the Shield France beat Germany convincingly to snatch the win. Prizes were also given out for the best-dressed team (Bafana Bafana) and for the team with the best team spirit (Mexico).
From feedback received from the participants, the tournament organizers are confident that the event was a huge success and hopefully will become an annual occurrence on the sports calender. Main oprganisers from the SKW included Sven Schonecke, Ralph Ellinger, Oliver Horsthemke, Günther von Hundelshausen, Bernd Steinbrück and Norbert Wurm. AFTER the successful inaugural tournament held just before the 2010 FIFA World Cup last year, the second annual 5-a-side tournament was hosted by SKW on 3 September. The eventual tournament league was won by team China, while Colombia won the Shield. The tournament was very well organised and a full complement of 32 teams were signed in. The 32 teams were split into groups of four with the first two placed teams then entering the cup competition while the third and fourth placed team entered the shield round. Some of the teams even had two to three women on board while others had some youngsters in their rows.
Only one NPL player was allowed per team to keep the social factor as high as possible. This rule and the low entry fees with the international theme ensured a cheerful social atmosphere. After a long sunny day of football the team of China won the cup fi nal against Nigeria by three goals to two, while Colombia walked away with the shield when they beat Argentina by fi ve goals to two. The award for the best team spirit went to Albania and the award for best-dressed team went to the Scots for designing and painting their own national kit. The tournament was sponsored by Namibia Breweries Limited, First National Bank, Leo and Windhoek City Tours.
SKW also announced at the prize-giving ceremony that they will donate all eight match balls (donated by NBL to the SKW for the tournament) plus more brand-new soccer balls to the Swallows Youth Academy which is run by Hermanus Naobeb. Naobeb with some of his Under- 11 kids received the balls as part of the offi cial prize-giving. Spoilers Friendly Meanwhile, the senior SKW football team will be travelling to Okahandja over the weekend where they will play a friendly match against First Division side, Namgem Spoilers at the Nau-Aib Stadium on Saturday.
This will go a long way to preparing SKW’s men to doing duty during the Namibia Premier League (NPL) season which is scheduled to start next week. Spoilers will then also host Civics on Sunday with the entrance costing a mere N$ 20 while cars have free entrance. The games will start on 14h00. Spoilers hosted both Orlando Pirates and Black Africa last weekend losing both match 2-1 and 2-0 respectively.

Das 2.SKW-Kick-it-Turnier am vergangenen Samstag war ein voller Erfolg. 32 Mannschaften hatten sich beim Freizeitwettbewerb eingetragen. Den Sieg holte sich „China“, das „kolumbianische“ Team gewann die Verliererwertung. „Albanien“ den „Spirit-Pokal“.
Die 32 Teams wurden in Gruppen zu je vier Mannschaften aufgeteilt. Die ersten beiden qualifizierten sich für die Finalrunden, die letzten für den Shield-Wettbewerb, eine Art Verliererpokal. Um sicherzustellen, dass es sich ausschließlich um Freizeitmannschaften handelte, wurde per Reglement festgelegt, dass nur ein Premier League Spieler pro Team auflaufen darf. Manche der Teams hatten sogar ein oder zwei Frauen im Aufgebot – andere wiederum spielten mit jungen Spielern. Dass sich die Mannschaften, meist Firmen, Vereine oder Organisationen, eine Nation aussuchen durften, um als „Nationalelf“ aufzutreten – sorgte für eine lockere Atmosphäre auf und neben den Plätzen.
Die Schlachtenbummler konnten ihrer Fantasie freien Lauf lassen und eben Deutschland, Brasilien oder Spanien anfeuern – anstatt die kryptischen Namen ihrer Firmen zu rufen. Auch die geringen Kosten für einen Startplatz sorgten für ein volles Haus. Das Wetter spielte mit und die etwa 200 Spieler und Anhänger genossen einen sonnigen, lustigen und spannenden Fußballnachmittag.
Für den frühen Abend waren die Finalspiele angesetzt. China (Team „Robert“) und Nigeria, die Truppe von Alweendo Matheus, hatten sich für das Endspiel um den Turniersieg qualifiziert. Mit 3:2 geht der Sieg der „Chinesen“ dann letztlich in Ordnung. Im Spiel um den „Losers-Cup“, der Shield-Wertung, in der sich die Gruppenletzten gegenüber standen, schaffte es Kolumbien(Team „Shikomba“) und Argentinien (Ralf Düvel / CSL) ins Finale. Das Match endete mit einem deutlichen 5:2-Sieg für die „Südamerikaner.“
Doppelte Freude bei der Siegerehrung: Die Veranstalter vom Sportklub Windhoek (SKW) hatten dort nämlich bekannt gegeben, dass die acht Turnierbälle gespendet werden. So freuten sich nicht nur die Sieger des SKW-Turniers, sondern auch die Nachwuchskicker der Swallos Youth Soccer Academy aus Katutura, die in den Genuss der runden „Leder“ kommen werden. Hermanus Naobeb, der Coach der U11-Swallows und ein Auswahl seiner Spieler hatten die Bälle entgegengenommen. - AZ online

Ausgezeichnet für den besten Mannschaftsgeist: Die „Balkankicker“ um Klaas Woller sicherten sich den Best-Spirit-Preis. Den Preis für den besten „Teamspirit“ schnappten sich die „Balkan-Kicker“ aus Albanien (Mannschaft um Klaas Woller). Die Schotten (Team „Günter”) trumpften mit einem eigens designten Nationaltrikots auf. Der Preis für das Team, mit den schönsten Trikots ging demzufolge an die Schotten.
Die SKW Alten Herren mischten die Konkurenz kräftig auf, so schied man erst im Viertelfinale aus.
At SKW Football Is The Winner
On 30 June SKW hosted its third annual Kick-it 5-a-side tournament. With 40 teams competing for the title of World Champion and with more than 500 people at the SKW fields the tournament was declared a major success by the event organiser Hartmut Aring.
Our sponsors, First National Bank, Namibian Breweries and Heat exchange are realising the potential of this tournament and have already committed to the 2013 edition. With teams divided into 8 groups of 5 teams each the action got underway early in the morning, luckily the weather played its role and made for perfect conditions to complete the 111 matches. With each team being guaranteed 4 matches even the two women teams and u-15 boy’s teams were assured of lots of fun on the day. After the group stages the first two teams advanced to the cup competition while the 3rd and 4th placed teams went on to the shield finals.
While traditional world football powerhouses, Netherlands and Brazil, competed in the shield final it was debt stricken Greece and the up and coming Australia who did battle in the cup final. The Netherlands, who qualified for the shield final with three straight penalty shoot-out victories, could not overcome Brazil who was crowned shield champion with a 3-1 victory. In the Cup final the Greeks showed an impressive performance to secure the title of World Champion with a 4-2 demolition of Australia.
The two other awards went to Russia who were awarded the best dressed team award and to Egypt (women only team) who were handed the best spirit award. With many teams still wanting to enter the tournament after entries had official closed the tournament organisers decided to extend the number of teams for next years competition. Said Hartmut Aring: We have seen the tournament grow rapidly over the last three years and have noticed that it is becoming a family event with women and boys also entering their teams. Next year we might consider introducing a lady’s only league and also start an old boys competition depending on the number of entries we receive.
