CTC A comfortably beat CTC OTB by 15 points to 5. In the singles matches, Elias Shikongo from the A team beat Peter Brinkmann from OTB, 6/4, 6/7, 6/3 while Eno Akpabio also from the A team beat OTB's veteran Werner Schuckmann 3/6, 6/3, 6/2.

CTC's A and C teams and SKW recorded comfortable victories in the Namibia Tennis Association's club league competition over the past weekend at the Central Tennis Club.

Akpabio stuck to his word after his last match with the C team's Mkhululi Khuphe when he said he would do better in the next matches, which he has proven.

Shikongo felt the singles match was a bit tough, but he fought very hard and as for the doubles he said he was very tired as he didn't get enough time to rest from his singles match that he played with Brinkmann.

“Elias played very well and he was very consistent” said his opponent Brinkmann. He continued to say that the doubles match he played with Schuckmann against Kaulinge and Kuda was long and fun, but he made too many double faults which he hopes to improve the next time he plays.

The doubles matches saw team A's Shikongo and Akpabio lose to OTB's Greg Chase and Bas Rijnen 2/6, 6/2, 7/10. The Samson Kaulinge/ Kuda Chari combination comprehensively beat Brinkmann / Schuckmann, 7/6, 5/7, 12/10. In another match, the Kaulinge / Chani team beat the OTB's Chase/Rijnen duo, 6/3, 6/3.

“The matches I played today were very long and competitive and I really enjoyed them” were Schuckmann's exact words. However he felt that he needs to get fit again.

SKW 16 CTC Poly 4

The visiting team from SKW most certainly didn't give CTC Poly the time of the day when they beat them by 16 points to 4.
In this match CTC Poly's Colin Nyandoro lost to SKW'S Dantago Gawanab 4/6, 1/6, while Prince Loemba from the Poly team beat Archie Norval from SKW 2/6 6/1 6/3.
In the doubles matches, the Patrick Paulus/ Masoka Mabhena combination fought hard, but lost to SKW's duo Kai Ahrens/Clifford Ngunowandu 5/7 3/6.
Playing against the younger generation, Paulus and Mabhena were well beaten by Dantago Gawanab and Archie Norval from SKW 1/6 3/2. The Polytechnic team of Nyandoro and Loemba beat SKW's team of Ngunowandu and Ahrens in a tight encounter 7/6 3/6 6/4.

CTC C 20 Nampol 0

In another match played at CTC, the CTC C team gave Nampol no chance when they beat them by 20 points to 0.
Risto Shikongo from the C team and also part of the NTA/FNB's national development programme, gave Warren Carr from Nampol no chance when he beat him 6/0 6/0.
The C team's Yed Malan also easily beat Nampol's Jaco Steenkamp, 6/1 6/2. When teamed up, the Shikongo and Malan team showed no mercy against Nampol's Theron Steenkamp and Thomas Weber as they won 6/2 6/1.
Roland van Greunen and Marsorry Ickua from CTC C beat T. Steenkamp and T. Weber from Nampol 6/3 7/6. In another doubles match, Greunen and Ickua once again swooped to a smooth clean win against Carr and J. Steenkamp 6/0 6/1.
In the first league the CTC team trounced SKW 2 with the highest possible margin of 20:0 points.

In the women's league DTS hosted the CTC A ladies. Enjoying the well-known DTS hospitality the CTC A ladies however lost no opportunity to beat their host by 18:2 points.

There was an upset this weekend in the NTA men's first league when Nampol narrowly beat the star-studded SKW1 team by 15 points to 9. The SKW 1 team boasts several current and former Davis Cup players.

In the singles, SKW 1's No. 1 player Herman Kuschke rallied back from a set down to beat a battling Grant Rau 4/6 6/4 6/2. In the second singles match Kuschke also won, beating Nampol's Henco Serdyn 6/2 6/3. Nampol bounced back when Hendrik de Waal beat SKW 1's No. 3 player Eduan Louw 6/2 5/7 6/2 and Nampol's Hennie Berg beat SKW 1's No. 4 player Luke Symons-Mayers 6/2 6/2.

In the doubles matches the Van Dyk/Kuschke team beat the Rau/Serdyn combination 6/4 6/4 while the SKW 1 combination of Louw/Symonds-Mayers lost to Nampol's De Waal / Berg team 6/2 6/4.

The tight match resulted in even numbers all round, in matches won (3-3), sets won (7-7) and points scored (9-9). The Nampol team however edged its more illustrious opponent overall by 15 points to 9 when it earned 6 bonus points on the head-to-head count to win the tie.

Humble Nampol after the match said they knew that their opponent was not at full strength but they will take their win nonetheless in what turned out to be a titanic encounter. It is not known exactly how long but it is suspected (by this writer) that Nampol has not won a match against SKW's powerful first league team for a long time.

The league continues in one week's time on Saturday June 20.
