Successful start to league (13.3.2010)
The first round of Fistball league games were played in windy conditions in Swakopmund over the weekend. While there were no upsets in the National A league with Sportklub Windhoek (SKW) 1 winning all its games, Windhoek Ramblers emerged as the surprise log leaders in the National B league.
The day started off with the games in the U14 league where league newcomers SFC, gave an impressive debut managing to win all their games. Cohen Fistball Club (CFC) is in second spot on the log with SKW holding third spot. The games were one of the highlights of the day, enjoying a large following. The cup for player of the day in this league went to Luca Fink of SFC who made a big impact in attack and defence for the Swakopmund team.
National A league defending champions SKW 1 underlined their dominance of Namibian Fistball once again. They managed to win all their games in straight sets to go top of the log. The SKW second team is second after winning a couple of close games against archrivals Cohen FC. Their match against CFC 2 went down to the last ball with the game taking seven sets before being concluded.
Windhoek Ramblers 1 was in high spirits after becoming the log leaders in the National B league. They had to travel to Swakopmund one player short but showed a lot of determination and fighting spirit winning all their games on the day. In second place are last year’s league winners CFC 3 followed closely by Swakopmunds SFC 2.
The next big event on the Fistball calendar is the first preliminary draw of the Fistball Associations N$ ½ Million raffle. It will take place on 26 March 2010 with the second round of league games scheduled for 24 April 2010 in Windhoek.

Ligaspieltag erfolgreich (13.3.2010)
Der erste Spieltag der namibischen Faustballiga ist am Wochenende in Swakopmund ausgetragen worden. In der Nationalliga A blieb der SKW 1 seinem Favoritenstatus treu und setzte sich auf dem ersten Tabellenplatz fest. In der Nationalliga B überraschten die Windhoek Ramblers 1ihre Konkurrenten und wurden Tabellenerster.
Angefangen hatte der Tag mit der U14 Liga. Liganeuling SFC erwischte einen guten Start in die Saison und konnte alle drei Spiele gewinnen. Sie belegen somit den ersten Tabellenplatz. An zweiter Stelle rangiert der Cohen Faustball Club (CFC) gefolgt vom Sportklub Windhoek (SKW) 1. Die zweite Mannschaft des SKW belegt den letzten Tabellenplatz hat aber noch kein Spiel bestritten. Die Windhoeker werden am nächsten Spieltag mit von der Partie sein. Spieler des Tages in der U14 Liga wurde Luca Fink vom SFC Sport Club.
Die Nationalliga A hatte wenige Uberraschungen zu bieten. Der SKW 1 bleibt weiterhin das Mass aller Dinge. Die Titelverteidiger konnte, mit Christoph Kubirske und Stefan Grögli im Angriff, alle Spiele souverän mit 4: 0 Sätzen gewinnen. Ausgeglichener waren da die Spiele der anderen Mannschaften. Vorallem das Spiel des SKW 2 gegen den CFC 2 wogte lange hin und her. Erst nach sieben Sätzen erkämpfte sich der SKW 2 den Sieg und konnte sich so den zweiten Tabellenplatz sichern.
Das Uberraschungsteam in der Nationlliga B ist der Ramblers 1. Die Mannschaft war mit nur vier Spielern nach Swakopmund gereist. Mit ihrem starken Kampfgeist konnten sie aber den fehlenden Spieler zu kompensieren. Sie sind nach drei Siegen aus drei Spielen Tabellenführer und zählen in dieser Verfassung durchaus zu den Titelanwärtern. Tabellenzweiter ist der CFC 3 gefolgt von SFC 2.
Die nächste grosse Veranstaltung auf dem namibischen Faustballkalender ist die erste Zwischenziehung der N$ ½ Million Verlosung. Die Ziehung wird am 26. März 2010 in Windhoek stattfinden. Sportlich geht es am 24. April 2010 weiter wenn der zweite Ligaspieltag beim SKW in WIndhoek ausgetragen wird.

Second round of league matches held
After the second round of games in the Namibian fistball league the SKW 1 remains unbeaten in the National league A with the Cohen FC 3 regaining first spot in the National league B. The games took place on Saturday on the SKW Fistball fields.
SKW 1 was not troubled by their opponents winning all their matches comfortably. They remain top of the log with SKW 2 already 5 points behind. The SKW second stringers struggled at times but did not succumb to archrivals Cohen FC 1. While Cohen FC did not manage to climb up the log the team should take heart from their performance and has laid the foundation for a charge on the top two teams.
Things went down to the wire in the National league B. Windhoek Ramblers 1 started the day in first place closely followed by league favourites Cohen FC 3. After showing strong performances throughout the day both teams met late in the day to determine the log leader. The scores were close in nearly every set with both teams putting up a-never-say-attitude in windy playing conditions. In the end the more experienced CFC 3 side walked off the field with the win and first place in the league. Things however remain close in the National league B with third placed SFC 1 not far off the log leaders.
The u/14 games were once again quite popular with a number of parents supporting the teams. The Swakopmund SFC side did not repeat their dominant performance from the first round of games held in March. They lost against a spirited SKW side but still managed to remain top of the log.
The next event scheduled on the Fistball calendar is Namibia's only Indoor Fistball tournament which will take place in Swakopmund on 15 May 2010.
SKW dominiert Hallenfaustballturnier in Swakopmund - 15 May 2010
Der Sportklub Windhoek 1 ist der neue namibische Pokalsieger im Hallenfaustball. Bei dem einzigen namibischen Hallenturnier des Jahres dominierten die Ballsportler aus der Hauptstadt das Geschehen nach Belieben und gewannen den Pokalwettbewerb ohne Niederlage.
Mit Entschlossenheit zum Pokalsieg: Der SKW 1 konnte sich auf seine Spiker verlassen. Michael Baas zeigte einige gelungene Aktionen am Netz. Acht Mannschaften gingen am vergangenen Samstag in der Mehrzweckhalle des SFC Sport Clubs an den Start und sorgten im namibischen Hallenfaustball für ein Rekordteilnehmerfeld, das sich aus Mannschaften des gastgebenden SFC Sport Clubs, des Cohen Faustball Clubs (CFC) des Sportklub Windhoek (SKW) und des Deutschen Turn und Sportvereins (DTS)zusammensetzte. Als Favoriten für den Wettbewerb galten eigentlich die Mannschaften aus Swakopmund, die auch den Titelverteidiger stellten.
Doch schon in der Vorrunde zeigten sich die beiden Mannschaften des SKW in bestechender Form. Sie ließen den Gegnern keine Chance und qualifizierten sich als erste Teams für die beiden Halbfinalspiele. Vor allem die Angreifer um Michael Baas und Stefan Grögli beim SKW 1 sowie Christoph Kubirske beim SKW 2 nutzten die Schwächen der Gegner erbarmungslos aus und zeigten sehenswerte Spielzüge.
Im Halbfinale traf der SKW 1 auf den in blau-weiß spielenden CFC 2, während der SKW 2 es mit dem CFC 1 zu tun bekam. Auch hier gaben sich die beiden grün-weißen Mannschaften keine Blöße und zogen souverän in das Endspiel ein. Die Teams des CFC versuchten zwar bis zum Schlusspfiff alles, um den Favoriten ein Bein zu stellen, doch reichte es am Ende nicht.
Das Bruderduell um den begehrten Pokal entpuppte sich als wahrer Leckerbissen für alle Faustballfans. Der SKW 1 stellte schon früh eine fünf-Punkte-Führung her, die mit viel Leidenschaft verteidigt wurde. Beide Abwehrreihen zeigten reaktionsschnelle und spektakuläre Abwehraktionen gegen die platzierten und druckvollen Angriffsschläge der Gegner. Trotz einer Aufholjagd in der zweiten Halbzeit der vereinsinternen Begegnung gelang es dem SKW 2 nicht mehr, den Rückstand zu egalisieren und der Erstvertretung noch den Sieg zu entreißen.
Erfreulich für die Verantwortlichen des namibischen Faustballverbands war die Teilnahme des DTS. Eine Mannschaft des Deutschen Turn und Sportvereins hatte zuletzt 2008 am nationalen Faustballgeschehen teilgenommen. Die DTS-Akteure, die zum Teil das erste Mal überhaupt Faustball spielten, schlugen sich tapfer und zeigten gute Spielanlagen. Ebenfalls als gelungen ist die Initiative des CFC und des SFC zu bewerten, die einige U14- Spieler in ihre Mannschaften integrierten und so auch den jüngsten Faustballern die Möglichkeit boten, wertvolle Erfahrungen zu sammeln und sich zu profilieren.

Dritter Spieltag der Faustballliga
In der Nationalliga A steht weiter der Titelverteidiger SKW 1 unangefochten auf Platz eins. Einzig die zweite Auswahl des Sportklubs kann dem namibischen Meister die Tabellenführung streitig machen. Der SKW 2 hat fünf Punkte Rückstand auf den Tabellenersten. Zum Spiel des Tages könnte das Spiel des CFC 1 gegen den SKW 1 werden das gegen 14.30 Uhr stattfindet
Der SKW 3 ist momentan auf dem letzten Platz der Nationalliga B. Eine Position die der SKW schnellstmöglich abgeben moechte. Die Mannschaft hat durchaus die Qualität gegen Ramblers 2 und den SFC 2 zu gewinnen und so Punkte zu sammeln. Schwierig wird es gegen Ramblers 1 die auf Platz zwei stehen und zu den Titelfavoriten gehören.
Verbessern kann sich auch die U14 Mannschaft des SKW. Nachdem sie am vergangene Spieltag einen Arbeitssieg gegen die dominante Mannschaft des SFC geschafft hat. Trainerin Didi Förster darf optimistisch sein und auf weitere Siege hoffen.
Third round of league games
It is business as usual for SKW 1. The team has dominated proceedings in the National league A with second placed SKW 2 already five points adrift from the top spot. Things are not likely to change although Cohen FC 1 might challenge the SKW 1 supremacy when the two teams meet in the last game of the day.
SKW 3 will be hoping to improve their fortunes in the National league B. They are currently in last place but could move up the log with wins against SFC 2 and Ramblers 2. SKW 3 face another tough encounter on Saturday when they play Ramblers 1 who are currently in second place.
Coach Didi Förster will be hoping that her U14 team will be able to build on the performance of the last games when they managed to beat a strong SFC side.
Fistball u.18 team to world championships in Spain - 16 July 2010

THE last round of fistball league games was held last weekend. Exciting fistball action was the order of the day, as teams in the first and second division fought for the all important top spot on the log. The first placed teams automatically qualify for the final playoff match that will decide the championship which is scheduled for 18 September 2010.
Having won all their matches, SKW 2 turned out to be the team of the day. However, this late challenge was not enough to topple SKW 1 from top spot. The defending champions will meet either SKW 2 or Cohen FC 1 who will play for the second spot in the final by way of a qualifying game. There was no stopping Cohen FC 3 in the national B league.
They easily won their remaining league matches, holding on to the top spot on the log. Things turned more competitive further down the log where four teams still had a chance to take either second or third spot. Ramblers 1 and SFC 2 held their nerve and took second and third place respectively. Either of the two teams will now meet CFC 3 in the championship final.
While the local fistball season will only continue in September, Namibia is sending their u.18 national team to Spain where they will participate in the world championships. The tournament takes place in Lloret de Mar near Barcelona and will feature the likes of Germany, Switzerland and Brazil. While Namibia will only be travelling with a limited number of players, coach Andeas Minz has assembled a dedicated team that can lead to the undoing of some of the more fancied sides. The world championships take place from 21 to 26 July.
Namibia fifth in U18 World Cup - 26/07/2010
The Namibian Under 18 Fistball Team finished fifth at the Fourth U18 Fistball World Cup in Lloret de Mar, Spain over the weekend.
In their first match they faced Brazil and lost the match in two straight sets (11-5; 11-4). Namibia went on to lose their next three matches. They won the first set 11-0 against Austria, but lost the match 2-1. They were also beaten by Switzerland (2-0) and Chile (2-0) on the opening day of the tournament on July 22.
The next day, the Namibians fortunes improved when they beat hosts, Spain in straight sets (11-0; 11-5). In their next match they lost to the defending champions Germany 2-1 after winning the first set 11-5.
In their next match the Namibians beat Italy 11-7; 11-3 to seal fifth position in the preliminary round of matches. Namibia then had to face Austria again in an encounter for fourth place. Austria proved to be a tough opponent and won the match 2-0 (11-5; 11-7).
In their fifth place playoff, Namibia played Chile who had beaten them in an earlier encounter. Namibia won the match 11-5; 12-10.
Germany were the winners of the World Cup with 14 points, having won 14 sets and dropping only one set. Brazil was second with 12 point. They won 12 sets and lost three. Switzerland was third after they won 11 sets and losing five to accumulate 10 points. Austria was fourth with eight points ahead of Namibia who had four points.
Chile (4), Italy (4) and Spain were number six, seven and eight on the final standings.
The team will return to Namibia on Tuesday 27/06/2010.
SKW gewinnt Cohen-Fun-Turnier
Der SKW 2 hat das jaehrliche Cohenturnier gewonnen. Das Fun-turnier findet in den namibischen Schulferien statt und ueberbrueckt eine Pause in der namibischen Ligasaison.
Zum ersten Mal konnte der SKW mit drei Manmnschaften an dem Turnier teilnehmen. Neben zwei Mannschaften mit registrierten Spielern der Nationalliga A und B schrieb der SKW auch eine Mannschaft ein, die aus den U14 Spielern des Vereins bestand. Die Nachwuchsspieler spielten zum ersten Mal bei den Erwachsenen mit und schlugen sich tapfer, kamen aber nicht ueber die Vorrunde hinaus.
Der SKW 1 und SKW 2 erreichten beide das Halbfinale. Der SKW 1 musste sich hier aber dem Cohen 2 geschlagen geben und ergatterte sich in einem Positionsspiel spaeter den dritten Platz. Der SKW 2 wiederum schaffte es ins Final und lieferte sich hier den Gastgebern Cohen 2 einen munteren Schlagabtausch. Das Spiel ging mit 2:1 zugunsten des SKW 2 aus.
Daikin supports SKW Fistball
The SKW Fistball section received their new playing gear from sponsors Daikin last weekend. Mr. Richard Starke, Representative of Starke Manufacturing – the Namibian representatives of the Japanese industrial giant- was present at the photo shoot.
The new shirts have arrived just in time for the World Cup, the intercontinental club championship, which will be played at the SKW on 15 and 16 October 2010. The SKW will also participate with a mens team at the event.
SKW wins Cohen-Cup
SKW 2 took the honours at the Cohen-Cup over the weekend. The Fun-tournament is hosted by the Cohen Fistball Club on a yearly basis during the Namibian school holidays.
SKW entered three teams for the first time in the history of the competition. While two of the teams consisted of National A and B league regulars the third SKW team was made up of U14 players. While SKW 3 did not make it past the first round both SKW 1 and 2 progressed to the semifinals. Here SKW 1 lost against Cohen FC 2. They later managed to win third place by winning the play-off match for the position. SKW 2 however made it into the final which turned into a tense affair with SKW 2 eventually taking the honours with a 2:1 sets victory.
Daikin sponsort neue Faustballtrikots
Rechtzeitig zum Weltpokal hat die Faustballabteilung des SKW neue Trikots bekommen. Hauptsponsor ist die Kaeltetechnikfirma Daikin, deren Firmenname nun die Brust der Trikots ziert. Der Kontakt zu Daikin kam durch Starke Manufacturing, dem namibischen Vertreter der japanischen Marke zustande.
Am vergangenen Wochenende zeigt sich der SKW zum ersten Mal, im Rahmenm eines Fototermins in der neuen Spielkleidung. Das Fotos zeigt Spieler des SKW Faustball mit Richard Starke, von Starke Manufacturing und gleichfalls Vertreter von Daikin.
Der Faustball Weltpokal wird vom 15 bis 16 Oktober auf dem Gelaende SKW stattfinden.
